TURBO LIBRARY

Features

The purpose of this library is to provide components for modelling aeronautical gas turbine systems, creating a library with the generic elements which represent any aircraft engine.

This library runs only under PROOSIS Simulation Tool.

The design and development of new propulsion systems is a very expensive process in both time invested and economic cost. It is therefore important to have an appropriate component library that facilitates system simulation, thus minimising costs.

Different types of analyses can be performed with a single model: the known variables can be defined as well as those that must be calculated in the model. This enables the user to perform different studies from a single performance point of view:

In the simulation of industrial cases, the relevance of the predicted performance depends on the quality of representation of the various physical components and, consequently, on the refinement of the mathematical models based on experimental measurements. The evolution of a valid model is an iterative procedure, and model formulation has to be modified to reduce differences between model and system behaviour.

This library has been specially designed with the engineer rather than the programmer in mind, which makes it easy for the user to design new components. Using the inheritance and aggregation features of the language, the user can define new components based on those already stored in the library.

Using drag & drop methodology, the user can quickly create the thermal diagram to be analysed, the representation of which is very similar to the physical system. The TURBO library provides a wealth of components to be inserted in a model.

Thanks to EcosimPro’s features, the TURBO library is very easy to configure and extend, adding any components and characteristics as needed. This can be done graphically through a simple, user friendly interface, or through EcosimPro’s object-orientated language which makes it possible to re-use existing codes.

Components

The TURBO library contains a palette of all the typical components needed to build a model of any turbojet or turbofan, and these components can be easily assembled in different ways so that any gas turbine architecture (propeller, civil fan, military engine, etc) can be modelled.

Components are represented by performance maps and by equations, and it is possible to load tables from Excel or from any other program.

The formulation of the components can be easily changed to include Reynolds correction, variable geometry effect, tip clearance, inlet flow distortion, etc.

The following four ports are defined:

The available components in this library are as follows:

The TURBO library also contains a set of functions that can be used to calculate the thermodynamic properties of gases produced by burning any hydrocarbide, specified by the chemical formula CHb, and its enthalpy of formation with air containing a certain amount of moisture. This makes it possible to define any fuel, such as JP-4, diesel, natural gas, hydrogen and so on.
